Hi, everyone. Welcome to BuildMySiteForFree.com. Today, I’m going to be explaining to you how to manage your authors and users on your blog. So I’m going to Read More...

Hi, everyone. Welcome to BuildMySiteForFree.com. Today, I’m going to be explaining to you how to manage your authors and users on your blog. So I’m going to show you what the page looks like and explain to you the different options you have. And I’m also going to talk a little bit about the rules that users can have on your blog. So it gives you a little bit more of a knowledge if you are going to start a blog with multiple users.

Now by doing this, first, you want to go to “Users” on your navigation menu. When you open it up, you’re going to want to click the very first link that’s titled “Users.” This will, of course, bring you to the Users page. Here is a list of all the users you have currently on your blog. So if you are the only user, you’re going to be the administrator, and you will be the only name in this list.

But if you decide that you want to add multiple authors to your blog, this is where the next part comes in. So first, I will show you that you have the option to delete users at any time, which means they will no longer have access to your blog and be able to write posts or manage posts on your blog either. And by doing this, you would just click the name of the user you would want to delete. You would come to the dropdown menu where Bulk Actions are and you press delete and then hit Apply. And this will delete the User from your blog.

Whenever you want to change their role, you would come to this section after you have clicked the box next to their name, and you can change their role by choosing any of these that I’m scrolling over. And when you’re done with this, you of course, want to hit change and that will change their role.

Click here to view the video on YouTube.

Next, I’m going to explain you a little bit of the roles’ definitions. So I’m going to open up this box again, and I’m going to start off at the bottom with subscriber. Subscriber only has access to manage their profile. Contributor has the option to write, edit, and manage posts, as well as upload files. However, a contributor, once they have written a post, need to save it as a draft because they need to get approval from the administrator before it is actually published. An author has all of the access that a contributor has. They can edit, write, and manage posts. They can upload files, but they can actually publish their posts to the blog without having to await for administration approval.

Next, we have editor. An editor can do both what an author and a contributor does, so they can, once again, edit, write, manage posts. Publish those posts and upload files. But an editor can also moderate comments. They can manage links and categories. They can edit pages. They can read and edit private posts, and they can also edit other authors’ posts. So you have a lot of roles here, if you’re an editor.

Then last, you have your administrator. An administrator is the site owner, so you can do anything, all of the above, with your blog. And like I said, if you ever want to change the role of someone so that they only have certain access to certain areas of your blog, this is where you would come. You would click one of the options and then, of course, hit change.

And then lastly, if you have a large amount of users on your blog, you can always come to this text box up here and search users. You can also see the amount of posts that each user has right here all the way on the right side. You will see their role here, their email here, and then if you choose to have a name next to them, that will be here.

And any time you want to edit any information for a user, you would simply scroll over their name. And where you see edit, you’ll go ahead and click that, and it will allow you to edit all of the user’s information.

And this video has been brought to you to teach you all about managing authors and users. Thank you for watching, and please stay tuned to more videos.

Many today are looking for ways to build a second or primary income. Building websites that earn money for you without much ongoing effort is a great strategy. Matt provides a great overview of how to get started and what to focus on. Definately a must read for budding online entrepreneurs.

If you are just starting out with Internet Marketing, there are tons of different ways of generating an online income. The problem most marketers have when first starting out is they try everything all at once for example PPC, PPV, and SEO.

There is no problem with running all those different types of advertising but it is way too hard! To be focused on all of those traffic sources can be very overwhelming and I know it because I started out that way. I tried to make everything work but it never did. It was way too much on my plate. I would never be successful working on all of those traffic sources.

So about 2 and a half years ago I said enough is enough. I need to focus on one method of traffic generation and focus strictly on the traffic I am generating to my websites. So I picked SEO as my main focus of advertising and it still is not easy focusing on one topic versus trying to run PPC or PPV or various other traffic sources. You need to pick a traffic source and develop a system or blueprint that you can follow each and every day.

Once I started to grasp all the basics of SEO I started ranking websites very well and efficiently. I had developed my own system to ranking my websites. Things like learning to optimize Meta tags and Meta descriptions is pretty basic stuff once you know what you’re doing. If I were still working on all the traffic sources I would have never learned what I have come to learn today.

Backlinking was another piece of the SEO puzzle that I had grasped as well. I started learning that relevant backlinks where a major part of my online success. I am always seeing people add so much spam and crap to their website and I was always wondering why. I am always trying to build things for the long term instead of using any trickery that Google may catch onto. I wanted to build a business that would last for years to come, not just a couple months.

Relevant backlinks give my websites a huge boost in rankings. Creating relevant backlinks makes Google reward me. I was ahead of the game. I was building a lot of quality backlinks that competitors didn’t have. I was beating my competitors by building better backlinks.

Some of the best places to get these links are blogs, forums, and Squidoo lenses. When building backlinks the highest authority backlink in Google’s eyes is an in content link. A backlink that is in the content of the page on the top fold. So when a searcher is reading the article they click your link which in turn gives you traffic and better ranking because Google thinks your website is something the searcher liked. So in return better rankings for you!

It is also always important to be diverse as well. You want to make sure when you build relevant backlinks that you are building all different kinds of links. You do not want to just have all blog comment backlinks because it doesn’t look natural. You want to stay under the radar by diversifying all of your backlinks. It is very important to do so that Google doesn’t think you are trying to game there system.

Once you fully optimize a website and build diversified backlinks to it how do I rank?! Well it takes time. You cannot build an online business over night. You need to build yourself up and keep growing. For example you cannot build 100 backlinks in 1 night. It will not look natural to the search engines. You cannot build links that are made industrial. For example you should build maybe 10 backlinks a day. You could build 15 backlinks a day. You always want to stay natural and under the radar. This will ensure that you keep things fresh for the search engines.

Once you start gaining momentum and ranking and you are hitting 50 visitors or more a day then it is time to add some affiliate offers or AdSense to monetize your website so we can start making money!

It is important that you do not add affiliate links to your website until you get 50+ visitors a day because it can be distracting. Checking stats all of the time is a huge time waster. You could be growing your online business bigger instead. So it is very important that you focus on traffic generation first. Chances are if you get less than 50 visitors a day you are not missing out on much money.

If you have no traffic you will have no money. That is why it is so important to focus on traffic generation first and foremost. You want to make sure you are adding value to your niche. Write good content that is unique and informational. You don’t want to give your readers a 100 word crappy article or your visitors will not like your website and most likely will never come back. You want to add value!

Let’s face it, without visitors your blog serves little purpose other than an avenue for you to express yourself. And if you plan on making any kind of capital from your blog, you need to drive regular and consistent traffic to it. Take Syed Balkhi as an example. This young student set up his website Balkhis and within 6 months his monthly profit was reaching nearly $2000, with just 538 subscribed readers and other less frequent visitors. He used some of the simple tips and techniques we’re about to reveal to you, which are easily compatible with a free website builder package, proving there is money to be made from a WordPress blog. You just need to get enough people to read it.

Here are 15 simple ways to get more traffic to your WordPress blog, starting today!

Use Social Media: Facebook and Twitter both experienced triple digit growth in 2009, so it’s vital to tap into their trillions of visitors and use them to promote your blog. Search engines also rank pages according to how many external links you have. Plug-ins such as ShareThis and Sociable invite your visitors to submit your posts on their social sites. Plus you can use a feed, such as Twitter feed, which puts your latest posts as RSS feeds on your Twitter account and updates your blog with any Tweets. You can download all of these plug-ins for free on our resources and plug ins page.

Promote on forums: another way to increase your external links and therefore your search engine ranking is to promote your blog on forums. Sites such as Bloggeries and Digitalpoint can be really effective. Do inspire potential visitors with a bit of your content, rather than blatant advertising.

Promote through prizes: get friends to promote the competition on their social networking sites, as well as using other forums, blogs and even local press to increase awareness. This is a great way to increase a loyal readership that comes back regularly.

Local promotion: can you get some free publicity by running a competition in your local newspaper or radio station? You could also give away freebies at a gig or hand out flyers at your local college.

Freebies: if you’re selling a product, send some free samples to journalists, national magazines, local press, review websites and any other relevant organization that might give you a free plug.

Comment on other blogs: commenting on other relevant blogs not only allows you to check out the competition and what they’re writing. You can also become one of their top commentators, which can increase exposure for your own blog.

Track what works and what doesn’t: if you know which posts are most popular and what your subscribers tend to like, you’re more likely to increase their loyalty and encourage them to bring more readers with them. Using a plug-in such as Google Analytics or StatPress, which can tell you everything you need to know about your visitors.

Search Engine Optimization: it’s important to write with search engines in mind, which means paying attention to relevant keywords. WordPress have a free All in One SEO plug-in which is so simple to use and does the job for you.

Add Multimedia: by adding images and video clips you can drive traffic to your site through multimedia search engines. You can also optimize your search engine ranking by adding relevant keywords to your images and clips.

Create a Sitemap: using the Google XML Sitemap plug-in is so easy. Each time you edit or create new content, the sitemap will be updated and all major search engines notified.

Create good content: take care of your loyal readership and give them content they’ll enjoy. It’s important you take care of your consistent readers, who are likely to spread the word about your blog and encourage other readers to join. Keep it fresh and update your blog three to five times per week to keep your visitors coming back for more.

Make use of RSS feeds: RSS feeds allow you to keep your subscribers informed of new content on your site, as well as increasing traffic. They are one of the most effective ways of publicizing your site and improving your search engine ranking. The basic WordPress package from any free website builder involves RSS feeds, which you can then customize to maximize your traffic.

Make friends with your visitors: people who enter your site will come from a variety of different routes and each with a huge network of their own friends. Using the Referrer Detector plug-in increases interactivity with your visitors from different routes, and allows you to customize your greeting. For example, you can remind Diggers to dig your story, or ask Tweeters to Tweet to your post.

Improve your article descriptions: description meta tags should contain your keywords, which can increase your search engine ranking. Also make your meta tag description enticing, as this is what readers will see on the search results page and will make the difference as to whether they click on your site or not.

Keep subscribers coming back: by using the Subscribe to Comments plug-in you can inform a user by email when someone has replied to their comment. This increases traffic because they’re likely to keep coming back every time the conversation continues.

One of the best things about your WordPress website is the exposure it has to the world, and the many resources available to help build your community. Adding user-friendly plugins will generate a community of users for your site that will continue to grow.

The tools you have at your disposal can make it easy for you to increase your sales, your site members, your discussions and more. Knowing which ones will make the biggest difference when there are so many to choose from can be tricky, but here are ten plugins that every WordPress website user should know about.

You can find all 10 Plugins in our onsite directory.

1. Mobile Press

This plugin makes your site as useful to someone visiting from a mobile device as one visiting from his or her computer. You can customize your site for mobile viewing and even track mobile views.

2. Wapple Mobile Architect

Since not all mobile devices work the same or use the same web programs, it only makes sense to customize your site to work with individual devices. This plugin does that for you, offering consistency for your mobile viewers.

3. WordPress Wiki

This plugin allows you to create a wiki within WordPress.

4. TDO Mini Forms

With this plugin, you can create customizable forms that let your members and users submit posts that you can approve or disapprove for publication to your site.

5. Members

This plugin is great if you have multiple users contributing to your site. It allows you to set boundaries for users, and determine what capabilities and role each user or member has, and allows you greater control over your content.

6. WP e-Commerce

The e-Commerce plugin for WordPress provides you with a full-feature shopping cart to accommodate sales on your site or for collecting required fees.

7. eShop

Another e-Commerce tool, but this one gives you more flexibility, allowing downloads, sales completed through email, as well as shipping options for products. It also includes an auto-responder for completed sales.

8. Business Directory

Let your customers input their own business information that you can include in a directory right on your site. Users can include descriptions of their business, URLs, contact information, and any other information you want to make available. This can also be a powerful SEO tool for your site.

9. Calendar

Make a calendar available on your site to list upcoming events, sales, and appointments. You can list multiple events per day, and users can see the details of each event, by either clicking on the date or hovering over the date with their pointer.

10. Social Bookmarks

One of the best ways to promote your site or business is through social sites, like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. This plugin allows visitors to post your site to their social networking page, making it visible to all of their friends and followers.

While there are many powerful plugins you can include on your WordPress website, the tools you use will depend on the type of site you have, and can determine the reach and impact of your site will have to the online community.

When you’re searching for something on the internet, do you ever click onto the second, third or fourth page of search engine results? The answer is probably no, never! Most people want quick answers and rarely ever venture onto page two.

If you have a WordPress blog, almost all your traffic will arrive from a search engine, so you need to start talking their language. Here are some simple solutions that will help you improve your search engine ranking and dramatically increase the traffic entering your site:

Basic Steps for Improving Your Rank

Search engines use many different parameters for ranking web pages, so it can take a lot of time to tick every box. So when you receive your website builder, work on getting the basics right and half the battle is won. Firstly, keyword density is important. Putting a list of keywords together that make no sense just won’t work. You need to form natural sentences using the keyword phrase and try to scatter it five or six times within the text, including in the first sentence and last paragraph. The keyword density monitor plug-in allows you to quickly check each post, ensuring you keep the search engines happy.

You can also improve your ranking by looking for similar keywords on the same theme and scattering those in the blog once or twice. Simply type part of your keyword phrase into Google and it will list other phrases and the number of searches. For example, if you type, “how to write a WordPress blog” you’ll also see that “how to write a WordPress post” is a popular search keyphrase.

Create a Sitemap

Using an XML-sitemap for your blog allows search engines to quickly check through your content and look for keywords, which can improve your ranking. The Google XML-sitemaps generator is compatible with all the major search engines and an excellent addition to any free website builder program.

Make Use of Multimedia

Adding images, video and sound makes your site more exciting for the visitor, as well as helping to drive traffic through Google’s multimedia search engines. Using a plug-in such as SEO Friendly Images is really useful, because it automatically updates all your images with proper title attributes to increase traffic from Google Image Search.

It’s not just about your site!

Finally don’t forget external links, because search engines also rank pages by the number of links to your site. You can easily achieve this using a free social media plug-in, which invite your visitors to submit your posts on up to 100 social bookmarking sites. Some of the most popular social plug-ins are ShareThis, Sociable or Gregarious, all available through our WordPress Resource Directory. Or even more simply, LinktothisPage is a plug-in that allows visitors to quickly and easily link your site to their own.

The Internet has so many websites and pages, how can you build a website and make sure it gets noticed? The trick is using SEO (Search Engine Optimization) effectively so that your site ranks well with the Search Engines and you get connected to the people looking for your services.

People won’t know your site is there unless you tell them, and the best way to build traffic to your website is by making it easy for them to find you in a web search. WordPress has many plugins that use SEO techniques and optimizes your content by helping you choose the right tags to use, how to create killer titles, and to use terms the search engines will latch onto.

All of these plugins are available in our Plugins Directory.

All in One SEO Pack

The All in One SEO Pack is probably the most highly recommended plugin for SEO on WordPress. In can be an effective tool for both beginners and veterans. This plugin will help you come up with the perfect titles and keywords, and site descriptions to get your site noticed and drive web traffic to your website. The more you work with the plugin, the more you can make it work for you.

SEO Watcher

This plugin checks the pulse of your site daily by checking your Google rankings on WordPress. You can enter up to three URLs and keywords, and the plugin will tell you if the sites are listed in Google’s top 100.

SEO Title Tag

The SEO Title Tag optimizes your title tags throughout your site, including all of your content, not just titles. This plugin allows you to do mass editing of title tags and pages in one shot. You can replace a page’s title tag with one that’s customized to improve search engine visibility.

Google XML Sitemaps

By generating a XML sitemap for your pages, the search engines can index your site more effectively, and that will generate more traffic for your site. Every time you create new content or a new post, the XML sitemap will alert the major search engines, like Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Ask, and that helps build traffic to your website.

SEO Smart Links

This plugin not only helps you create personalized keyword lists, but it also links your keywords and phrases with other posts and pages within your site, automatically interlinking your posts, and allowing you to link affiliate sites to your own.

While there are hundreds of free plugins on WordPress that can help you build a website that gets you a higher ranking with the search engines, not all of them are worth the effort it takes to make them work for you. The five listed are must haves, and are all easy to install and operate, and will make a noticeable difference in your visitor stats. Once you begin working with the plugins and can tell how they are making a difference in your traffic, you will learn to use them even more effectively, and their value to your business will continue to grow.

Search engine optimization is vital for the success of any blog or website. By following some simple rules, alongside the help of various plug-ins, it’s easy to make your WordPress site more search engine friendly. This means that when someone types relevant keywords into a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, you will appear as high as possible in the results, preferably on the first page. More people will then click on your site, which is essential for its success.

Knowledge Is Power

The key to making your site attractive for search engines is to understand your target market. As soon as you begin with your website builder, you need to know which keywords are being searched for, how your viewers arrive and which pages they like best. This enables you to make the most of your content, ensure you’re using the appropriate keywords and helps you to create a loyal readership. Google Analytics, StatPress and PostRatings are all free plug-ins which analyze various statistics about your visitors. Go to our WordPress Resource Directory where you can download one for free.

Making The Most Of Your Content

The basic rule of driving traffic to your site is to write with search engine optimization in mind. Content is key because a search engine cannot actually see a site. It’s the words that do the talking. You still need to create interesting, relevant and original content, otherwise your visitors won’t return. Yet don’t waste hours with your website builder focusing on themes, fonts and colors. If you don’t drive traffic to your site, no one will see it anyway!

Here are some basic rules to optimizing your content:

Stick to a single topic: each page or post should be focused and relevant. Don’t just put in random keywords, as search engine technology can detect this. They look for how tightly focused a page is, so it’s better to write about a single topic.

Don’t overdo the keywords: you need to use your chosen keywords throughout your post several times, plus you also need to place them in the title. Try to naturally integrate them into the structure so that your content is easy to read.

Don’t forget a title and description: these appear when your site is listed in search rankings. They should also contain your keywords or keyphrase, which can boost your ranking as well as enticing the reader to click on your site.

All In One SEO

If you’re new to search engine optimization, there’s a great plug-in called the All in One SEO pack, available in our resource directory. It effectively helps you increase your search engine success with very little effort, by automatically optimizing your titles and metatags. This package is excellent for beginners and best of all it’s completely free.

Striking out on your own to build a website is easy and only takes a few minutes, but without the proper instruction, you could waste hours of your time and accomplish nothing but a massive headache. Trust me, I tried.

I found out I could build a website with WordPress for free, and I knew I had an existing site that came with my Internet account. No problem- I downloaded WordPress and got to work, but after several failed attempts, I discovered that I needed more software and more experience to come anywhere near having my own site.

After I took a break and calmed myself down, I did some looking and found that I could choose a web host that would take care of all those technical problems for me. I found one that was inexpensive and easy to use. Within minutes, I was up and running, and designing my very own page. This is how I built a website:

Choose a Webhost and Domain Name

I went with Blue Host because of the low cost and the easy set up. Choosing a domain name was easy; I used my name since it wasn’t going to be the name of my website or anything, just something to identify my account. Once you have signed up, login to your account using the domain name and password you chose.

Install WordPress

When you have logged in, you will have a control panel screen. Scroll down to the bottom and find the Software/Services section. Find the WordPress icon and click it to go to the download screen. You will see “Step 1.” Choose WordPress 3.0 (Stable), and select your domain name from the “Where to install” menu.

Go to Step 2 and give your site a name, yourself an administrator name and password, and check the “Automatically create a new database” box. Read the terms and conditions, and check the Step 3 box if you accept the terms. The final step is to click “Complete.” The software will be installed and your page will be created.

Personalize Your Site

Now that your page is created, you get to do the fun stuff, like choose the layout, or WordPress theme for your site. There are hundreds of free themes to choose from, and you can preview them before you make your selection. You can always change your theme later without losing any of your content.

When you login, you will find your “Dashboard.” This is the control room for your site. Along the left side, you will find all the controls to personalize your website and decide on what bells and whistles you’ll need for your site. For more detailed instructions as to how to personalize your site you can visit How to install Graphic Themes and also how to install feature add ins, or Plugins. Use the “Help” button to find out what each option does, or click here to find more, detailed instructions on how to build a website to your own specifications.

Small business owners face many challenges in today’s changing marketplace, and one challenge that may seem overwhelming can actually be very simple to handle- designing and maintaining your own website. Business owners can build their own, personalized and fully functional site using WordPress, for free.

Building your own small business website with WordPress can be easy and quick, and can be done by almost anyone with just a little computer knowledge. If you use the computer on a regular basis, for web browsing or emailing, you can probably learn to build a site in one, short sitting.

Start with These Easy Steps

Start by finding a web hosting service. While WordPress is free, you will still have to pay a small fee for a web host. Bluehost offers easy-to-use and inexpensive services, and they even provide you with a domain name at no cost. Choosing a domain name isn’t hard. It is only used to identify your account, so you can even use your name.

Once you sign up and choose your domain name, login to your account and from the Control Panel screen, scroll down to the WordPress icon and click it. This takes you to the WordPress Install screen. Select 3.0 (Stable) as the version to download, enter your domain name, create a user name and password, check the box to create a new database, agree to the Bluehost terms and click “Complete.” Your website will be created.

Customize Your Website

Begin by choosing a theme for your site. WordPress has hundreds to choose from so you can find exactly the style you want. Use this free website builder with WordPress to quickly install the graphics and designs you want.

Once you sign in to your account, you will see your Dashboard on WordPress, and from here you can name your site, create pages, create more pages, posts, upload photos, and do just about anything you want with your site. It’s completely customizable.

When you build your own small business website, remember to use keywords and phrases that will rank well with the search engines and bring customers to your site. Use every opportunity to include a tag or keyword, like page titles, photo captions, and product or service descriptions.

Load Your Site with Tools

WordPress offers a variety of plugins and widgets you can use to enhance your site. You can add a plugin to accept credit cards if you plan to sell from your site. Search through the available plugins and determine what your customers will find most helpful and make them most likely to use your business.

Also use plugins to help increase traffic to your site. Free SEO plugins are available that will get your site highly ranked by search engines. Use tracking devices to see where your customers are finding you so you can duplicate what works.

WordPress makes it easy to build your own small business website and customize it to your own specific needs, right from your own computer.
