Matt Cutts: Good question. The answer is Google does not, NOT, repeat not, give a higher ranking to websites which run AdSense. They are completely independent. It’s not the case that if you run AdSense you get any kind of boost in ranking or anything like that. So it’s definitely not the case that you get some boost because you run AdSense.

Your second question was, “Isn’t this Google trying to maximize its profit?” There has been a lot of times where Google has basically said yeah we could make money by selling some banner ad on our homepage but rather than annoy our users let’s try to figure out a way to get long-term loyalty from our users. The best way to do that is to protect them, help them and generate the kind of search results they are going to be happy to come for the next time around.

So there is definitely nothing in our search rankings where you will rank higher because you run AdSense. We try to take the long-term view and that would be a very short term amount of thinking to do so don’t worry about that within the search results.

Many Adsense newcomers become frustrated with the lack of earnings they generate using the placement of ad units on their WordPress site. Are you one of the countless blog owners who’s given up on Adsense because you can’t understand why you’re only making a few dollars a month? The fact is you could be making some of the fundamental errors common to many Adsense novices, which are so easy to fix.

All you need is to spend a bit of time researching how the Adsense program works. What you’ll discover is that even with high volumes of traffic, simply sticking a unit anywhere on your WordPress website won’t convert to decent earnings. Yet there are some simple tried and tested methods for maximizing Adsense revenue, which could see you triple your earnings within 30 days. Try them out and you could be well on your way to your first $100 day, with many more to come.

Location is Everything

One of the most important lessons Adsense entrepreneurs have learnt is to get the placement of ad units right. You’re looking to increase your click through rate, and by simply choosing the best location and following a few simple rules you can dramatically increase your earnings.

Successful entrepreneurs report their click through rates skyrocketing when they employ a 336×280 unit placed below the post titles on their WordPress site. This proves to be much more successful than between the post and the comments section. Also using the left hand sidebar can be successful, much more than the right. The best thing to do is to try different locations and see which has the best conversion rate for your site. It’s easy to check, just try the unit in several different places and see which generates the most conversion.

Use a larger unit

To make decent earnings from Adsense you’ll need to place a fairly large unit on your WordPress site. Some people even use up to three per page. Overall the 336×280 unit appears to have the most success.

Add aggressively to low traffic sites

Having a few sites scattered around the internet that yield just a small amount of visitors is a simple way to generate some extra Adsense income. These sites are so easy to set up using a free website builder and take very little maintenance. Because traffic is low you don’t have to worry about aggressively using Adsense units, meaning you can place three per page in the prime locations (below the post titles, on the left side bar and below the body of the text). These sites can yield a high click through rate, despite the low traffic levels. Don’t underestimate the earning potential of your smaller websites.

Protecting your loyal readers

Some people worry about annoying loyal readers by placing large advertising units across their sites. One way to get around this is to place larger units on posts more than 7 days old. This works because loyal readers log in more regularly and see more recent posts, plus they oblivious to advertising units over time anyway. Then you can rely on search engine traffic, which tend to come to older posts, to click on the ads and increase your revenue.

Quality not quantity

If you choose a niche, you can successfully optimize your lower levels of traffic and it can be just as effective at generating good levels of income. If you are creating a new site for Adsense rather than using it on an existing site, do your research and find a niche you know will pull in a lot of well converting traffic.

Test to see what works

The best way to work with Adsense is to try different things and see what works for your site. Don’t give up just because you have a low conversion rate. Try different things to see what increases your percentage. Simple techniques like changing the layout, theme or ad design can increase your conversion rate significantly. For example, simply removing the Adsense border can increase the click through rate on some WordPress sites by up to 2%. Try it out and see if it works for you!

Just because you’re making money elsewhere…

Don’t underestimate the power of Adsense, even if you’re already making money from affiliate marketing and direct sponsors. You could still use Adsense to increase your earnings, even by $100 per month, by placing some strategically placed units.

Effective use of Adsense plug ins can mean the difference between generating just a few dollars a month and earning a decent income from your WordPress website. In just a matter of weeks, if you use these plug ins effectively you can double, triple or even quadruple your earnings with hardly any effort at all. They don’t focus on generating more traffic for your site. Instead they make the best use of the traffic you already have and improve your click through rate, which in turn boosts your Adsense revenue.

Here are 10 of the most popular Adsense plug ins, all available on our plug ins resource page, that can help you dramatically improve your WordPress website earnings:

WP-Insert: this plug in is great for Adsense novices as well as those with a lot of experience. It’s really easy to use and not only helps you generate advertising revenue, it also helps to increase traffic and generally run your WordPress website effectively by managing feeds, providing analytics, blog editing and theme editing. You can place ads wherever you choose on your site – above, below, in the middle, left or right of content, with further options to show or hide ads on particular pages. You’re also equipped with 10 ad widgets and the option to style your ads for better click through rates.

Easy Adsense: this plug-in makes generating Adsense income from a WordPress site extremely easy. It manages every aspect of using Google advertising units, as well as giving you the power to control positioning and display on each page and post. Available in multiple languages, if you’re new to monetization of your WordPress blog, this is highly recommended.

Advertising Manager: a no-nonsense, user friendly plug in that manages Adsense ads and their rotation. It’s also compatible with many of the other advertising revenue generators. Code is inserted automatically and you can position your ads easily using widgets. Also it limits your ad display to comply with network terms and conditions. This is the update of the previous plug in named Adsense Manager.

Adsense Beautifier: one thing that bloggers really worry about is that their regular readers will become irritated by large Adsense units. Also, let’s face it, Adsense units are not the most attractive and some are pretty dull and boring. Using this plug in allows you to place images beside your ads. This not only makes them look more beautiful and acceptable to your readers, but can also increase your clicks and therefore your earnings.

Adsense Now! This is one of the simplest Adsense plug ins you can use with your WordPress site. It helps you generate income with one key function, to put Adsense units in up to three places on all your posts and pages. All you have to do is cut and paste, it’s so simple!

Adsense Under Image: if you have a lot of images on your WordPress website then this is the plug in for you. It inserts Adsense code under every image and if there are no images it doesn’t insert any code.

Adsense Sharing Revenue and Earnings System: this plug in is great for websites with multiple authors. You can share your Adsense impressions with your co-authors, meaning you both earn from the articles. This plug also allows you to view your Adsense earnings, a great motivator to create more content!

Google Adsense for Feeds: make the most of your feeds using this plug in. It inserts Adsense units into your RSS feeds, which is ideal if you have a high feed subscription rate and create a lot of publicity for your site through feeds.

Context Ad Wrapper: a really great plug in to target your ads at the correct market, therefore increasing your click through rate. It helps to reduce the endless advertising space irrelevant to your readers, by marking the key parts of a blog and identifying the ad that best matches the post and the comments.

Google Ad Wrap: another plug in that allows you to better target your ads, by wrapping posts and comments inside Section Targeting tags. This also gives the Google spider a better idea of what’s important on your page and can help improve your search engine ranking.

Because of its simplicity and user-friendliness, WordPress has become one of the most used free website builder in the web since its release in 2003. Recently, a lot of WordPress-powered site owners have discovered that when complemented with Adsense, their site becomes a powerful money generating source of steady income.

In response to the recent economic challenge and recession, people are looking for ways to earn money and the idea of earning online has become appealing to many. Attractive ideas behind having an online business includes being able to take care of your business wherever you are, and you get to have a flexible schedule, allowing you to be more in control of your time and activity.

Google Adsense: The Easiest, Most Popular Way to Earn Online

There are many ways to earn money online. However, this article will only talk about what is considered as the simplest and most practicable way to earn money online. It’s called Google Adsense.

There are basically only two things you need to be able to generate income from Google Adsense. 1. A website and 2. A Google Adsense account. Don’t be discouraged if you think you’re not techie enough to have a website. For those who are not very savvy with HTML, CSS, and all those confusing web development lingos, there are plenty of tools that can help you set up a website without knowing programming or web design codes. There are also free short courses offered that will let you learn how to build a website from scratch in as short as one week. I would highly recommend the popular website builder WordPress if you want to create a website.

Getting a Google Adsense account is fairly easy, and it’s free. Just go to the Adsense Signup page and apply. After a successful application, Google will provide you with a code to put in your site so you can start showing Google Adsense and when people click on it, you start earning.

Technically, you can already start earning once Google Adsense is integrated with your site, but what I’m going to discuss next is how you can effectively maximize your earnings from your WordPress site with Google Adsense through a variety of Adsense-optimized WordPress themes.

One of the features I really like from WordPress is the availability of ready to install themes for all purposes. Plenty of Adsense-optimized WordPress themes are available to choose from so you don’t need to create a website from scratch. If you didn’t know HTML, CSS or web development, this feature would spare you all the trouble and frustration.

Here Is A Review Of Some Of The Most Popular Adsense-Optimized Themes And How You Can Maximize Earnings From Them:

1. AdFlex WordPress Theme

Perhaps, the most popular approach to promoting a website in the internet today is Search Engine Optimization or more commonly known as SEO. This the process behind how a particular store comes up as the first result in search engines like Google, or Yahoo, when you search for a particular word, or phrase. That store is search engine optimized for that particular term or keyword.

What’s great about this theme is that it designed with a Search Engine Optimized structure in mind. This is a huge help in your SEO strategy in the long run and in your effort to have your site show up on the high ranks of the Search Engine Results Page (SERP).

Another interesting thing about this theme is that you can add images or graphics near the AdSense, which helps entice visitors to click on your Adsense link. However, you have to tread carefully on this one since it is against AdSense rules to place pictures near their ads that may “trick” the users into clicking them.

2. SEO AdSense

This one is another neat and simple AdSense WordPress theme. It can provide the maximum number of AdSense units per page: 1 ad link and 3 ad blocks. However, you might want to resist the urge to bombard your pages with AdSense because it can ruin the whole experience for the users, doing more harm than good to your traffic. As the name implies, this theme is heavily search engine optimized which gives it a real advantage against other themes.

3. ProSense

The advantage of this theme is it loads fast, thus making your visitors stay longer, and it is designed in such a way that the reader’s maximum attention is directed to your Adsense ads while maintaining as much focus on your site content as possible. It also comes with Adsense ad units with optimal placement and blending.

4. WP Colors

Not only is this theme visually attractive, it designed with Adsense and SEO in mind. Its main advantage is the placement of its sidebar content. Most themes have their sidebar content before their main content. In this theme, the side bar information is placed AFTER the main content, making the main content processed first by search engine spiders. This makes it more advantageous for search engine searches. On top of that, it comes with 3 ad units already, and an easy to understand README file that will tell you where to put your publisher ID.

5. Problogger Clean WordPress Theme

This theme also comes with built-in ad blocks that conforms to Google’s optimization recommendations. On top of that, it also follows the section targeting guidelines to make sure that only the actual site content is indexed for its Adsense context. This 3-columned theme also has Click Safety features that prevent you from clicking your own ads; a practice considered by many as a violation to Google AdSense rules.

All these themes I have enumerated are available from our WordPress themes resource page. If you want to make money online or simply want to spread information, you can never go wrong with WordPress: the internet’s most dependable free website builder.
